Centrifugal Pump Repair
Centrifugal Pump Repair
Centrifugal pumps are complex machines that go through huge wear and tear. Therefore, it is essential for them to be checked and repaired regularly. If you own a centrifugal pump, you should see to it that it undergoes timely centrifugal pump repair.
For the centrifugal pump repair, the pump may have to be removed from the jobsite, where you have it installed. However, in some cases the repair may involve only on-site troubleshooting.
The usual repair jobs include a complete disassembly of your centrifugal pump. Also, the pump may have to be inspected through various non-destructive testing processes and a precise measuring may also be done on it.
Your centrifugal pump may also have to undergo sandblasting. Also, a through cleaning of all the centrifugal pump component parts may have to be done. Apart from this, the pump may also have to undergo various mechanical repairs and some of its parts may have to be replaced as well. Sometimes when required, a fabrication of the various parts of your centrifugal pump may be done.
Once the repair is done, the pump has to be reassembled. After reassembling, the pump is tested for performance. After everything is done, this pump is delivered to the jobsite and is reinstalled followed by the alignment of its shafts.
Although the repair work is done by professionals, there are some things that you should know about centrifugal pump repair. They would help you understand the performance of your pump in a better way and also help you increase it.
The first thing is that when the cutwater area of the pump is being repaired, a proper minimum clearance should be retained between the cutwater and the impeller. This minimum clearance actually is about 4% of the impeller diameter for impellers up to 14" in size. For impellers above 14" of size, it comes to 6 percent.
Also, if the pump's bearings have failed big ime or even if they are locked up, a precision measurement of the bores should surely be taken. These bores are places where the bearings fit themselves. Also, a precise measurement of the shaft journals on which the bearings are mounted has to be done.
These tips will work for all types of centrifugal pumps with all types of impellers. They are good for the pumps with an open impeller as well as a closed impeller.
The fact that you should understand is that your centrifugal pump is just a piece of machinery. Hence, it is very necessary for you to see to it that the pump undergoes timely and proper centrifugal pump repair. This will keep the pump efficient and will increase its life.
